Meet Rose

Hi there! My name is Rose Awotula Kehinde. There are many facets to me, this is because I like experiencing things. I am super silly, love to laugh and love seeing people being happy. I naturally stay in protector mode for my family and friends.

I have a great love for music, but I cannot dance for real in public as I think I have NO rhythm – most of my friends have only seen me dance for real ONCE, and that was at my wedding!

I have a great passion for reading which I attribute to how we were brought up by my parents, who made sure that in the summer time we were reading and writing book reports. Thanks to my parents, I read (or listen to) at least 3 or 4 books a month.

I have a love for the performing arts that is unreal. Being on stage and performing in a play is something that I wish I could be doing all the time; it never gets old to me. …maybe one day you’ll see me on the “big screens”.

And travel, if you know me you know I’ll go anywhere on a whim. Whether it’s a road trip, domestic or international, as long, sign me up!  Literally… that’s why I became a travel agent.

I was born on June 17, 1984 as the second born of five. I am the first daughter of some amazing people by the name of Dr. Samson and Grace Oluremi Awotula. Yes, they both have the same middle name.

They are phenomenal people and I can only pray that I make them proud in every area of my life. My dad is in heaven now but, my daily prayer is that we (my siblings and I) make him smile when he see how we take care of our mother and how we continue our family legacy.

Contrary to the story I told a few of my friends about my birthplace, I was born at a hospital in Abeokuta, Ogun State in Nigeria, West Africa. Though, I did not grow up there, my parents both made sure that I can speak and understand our native language, Yoruba. Now when I think about the story, (which I’ll share that with you all one day..lol), I should have told my friends that I was born “under a rock” because truly that is what Abeokuta translates to in English.

Education has always been an important part of my life, so there was no doubt that I was going to college after high school. However, when I started my college journey at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, I declared my major as Economics and Finance. Anyone that knows me knows that I despise mathematics, so what was I thinking? I still ask myself this question sixteen years later.

It was after I received my first ‘D’ grade ever in life that I realized, it was time to change this major because my parents were NOT going to take this news well at all (you had to know my daddy). I immediately changed my major to undeclared..don’t judge me. My sophomore year, I changed it to Psychology after some experiences that I’ll share with you later. Oh and in case you were wondering, no I never told my daddy about that D… Hey, would you?

I am married to an amazing genius by the name Tayo for going on 8 years now. It has been one heck of a journey as we don’t currently reside on the same continent right now however, we work. What does not make sense to others makes perfect sense to us. When you have plans and God changes them up, you allow Him to navigate and you follow because He is ultimately the best GPS.

We do not have any children yet but we do want some, he wants three but uhm… lol. No seriously, I want a set of twin boys and then I want to be done. However, both my parents have prayed triplets on me even down to the genders…what were they thinking? *raised eyebrows* Y’all pray, because Rose with three babies at the same time…I don’t know how that is going to work. Stay tuned!

I have a love for people that also stems from my parents, I will never forget how growing up we always had people living or dining with us. Even when we lived in Germany, there was never really a time that it was just the Awotula parents and children. As my daddy would say, “I am for the people”. Because of this love, I desire to see people win, succeed and pursue their dreams so that they can be the best version of them that they can, enter #RoseColoredLenses.

As you read from me you will see my heart and I hope, I will see yours. My mission and goal is to create a platform that will allow us to help each other on this journey called life. That’s just a little bit about the Rose behind the lenses. I’m Rose Kehinde!
